Business Systems Technology Student Wins $1,500 Scholarship!
On Wednesday, April 16,
2008, Waubonsee Community College hosted their 29th
Annual Business Competition Day. Students from fifteen area
high schools and vocational centers began arriving on the Waubonsee
campus around 8:30 a.m.
Registration and
pictures of each group were taken. Students were welcomed, informed
as to where the contests would take place, and then began filtering
to rooms in the new Academic and Professional Center. Students competed in one of thirteen
contests. Participants were
given one hour to complete the test and report back to the APC
Ballroom.
The Business Systems Technology
students competed in the Spreadsheet, Keyboard/Document Formatting,
and Office Procedures contests. This year a record number of 263
students entered the contests, with 241 competing on Wednesday. With the
record numbers in attendance, the competition was stiff.
While the judges
were grading the contests, the participants were involved in a
spelling bee, and then treated to lunch. Once lunch was over,
the anticipation of the announcement of the winners began. The
top three placeholder’s names in each contest were flashed across a
PowerPoint presentation slide, and they were brought down on stage.
Scholarships to Waubonsee were awarded for the third, second, and
first place winners.
We are very proud to announce
this year that Lindsey Plante, a junior in the Business Systems
Technology class at IVVC, placed second in the Office Procedures
contest and won a $1,500 scholarship to Waubonsee! Waubonsee
will hold that scholarship for Lindsey until she graduates next
year. Congratulations, Lindsey!
