IVVC's “Night of Recognition” and Awards Ceremony

Indian
Valley Vocational Center hosted a “Night of Recognition” along with
their annual Awards Ceremony on May 15, 2008, at Timber Creek Inn
and Suites. The evening began with an Open House for
internship and business partners who have worked with IVVC during
this year. This was followed by an Open House for parents,
community members, students and specially invited students who have
enrolled in the new IVVC Hospitality Management program, which will
be piloted in the fall of 2008 at Timber Creek Inn and Suites.
The IVVC Awards Ceremony followed these open houses with
recognition being given to all graduating seniors as well as
presentations of local and memorial scholarships, SkillsUSA
recognitions, Technical Honor Society certificates, and Perfect
Attendance awards.
Students from IVVC’s 16 career and technical programs were
presented with certificates of completion based on 450 completion
hours for first year students and 900 completion hours for second
year students.
The following students were
recognized as Most Outstanding in their programs: Auto
Body Repair-Christopher Simpson (Paw Paw) Auto Mechanics –Brandon
Brooks (Serena), Building Trades-Ryan Shorkey (Newark), Building
Trades Remodeling-Kevin Richards (Sandwich) and Jese Schag
(Serena), Computer Technology-Scott Zielinski (Earlville), Drafting
and Design-Levi Ford (Serena), Early Childhood Development-Lauren
Kincannon (Leland) and Amanda Underwood (Yorkville), Fire
Science-Kaitlan Lave (Indian Creek), Food Service-Lauren
Moody (Sandwich), Graphic Communications-Kellas Banta (Somonauk),
Health Occupations I-Maria Gardea (Plano), Health Occupations II-
Laura Rodriguez (Yorkville), Law Enforcement-Tyler Lurz (Sandwich),
Sports Medicine- Jessica Noll (Sandwich) and Katlyn Simmons (Indian
Creek), Welding and Fabrication-Jason Wehrli (Sandwich),
Cosmetology-Jamie Wood (Sandwich).
The following students were recognized as Most Improved in
their program areas: Auto Mechanics- Amber Dodaro-Perkins
(Paw Paw), Building Trades-Daniel Morsch (Somonauk), Fire
Science- Greg Jeffries (Indian Creek), Food Service-Dustin
Stockwell (Serena), Health Occupations I-Kateena Lewis (Yorkville),
Health Occupations II- Gabrielle Voss (Yorkville), Welding and
Fabrication-Cora Brunoehler (Sandwich), Cosmetology-Kylie
Willyard(Yorkville).
Scholarships were awarded to the following students: WCC
Gustafson Scholarship–Laura Rodriguez (Yorkville), Joel Jourdain
Memorial-Colin Christopher (Somonauk), Ray Larsen Memorial-Erin
Cantrell (Sandwich), Rotary Memorial- Scott Brummel (Sandwich),
Marcia Murphy Memorial-Jason Wehrli (Sandwich), Rhonda Quinn
Memorial-Brittany Futrell (Sandwich), Connie Olson Memorial-Levi
Ford (Serena).
State SkillsUSA winners were recognized along with National
SkillsUSA qualifiers: State winners- First Aid/CPR 2nd
place-James Colford (Somonauk); Medical Math 2nd Place-
Laura Rodriguez (Yorkville); 3rd Place-Sarah Rooney
(HBR);CSI Team National Qualifiers- Tyler Reboletti (Yorkville),
Tyler Lurz (Sandwich), Mike Palasiewicz (Sandwich); Criminal
Justice National Qualifier-Matt Kimmey (Sandwich); First
Aid/CPR National Qualifier-Laura Rodriguez (Yorkville).
Fifty-five Indian Valley Vocational Center students received
certificates as members of the IVVC Technical Honor
Society. These juniors and seniors maintained a cumulative
3.0 GPA at their home schools and a straight A average in their
IVVC program for the 2007-2008 school year.
One year perfect attendance certificates were awarded to the
following students: Plano High School- Angela Schmidt,
Sarah Larsen; Somonauk High School-James Karns, Aubry
Thompson; Sandwich High School- Mason Ruppert, Benjamin Craig,
James Krachtus, Jaclyn Sniegowski, Brittany Anderson, Nick Minnis;
Yorkville High School- Timothy Collins, Brianna Newell, Douglas
Schmidt.
A two-year perfect
attendance plaque was awarded to David Severson (Sandwich).
Indian Valley Vocational Center is a career center for high school
juniors and seniors located in Sandwich. Eleven school
districts (Earlville, Hinckley-Big Rock, Indian Creek, Leland,
Newark, Paw Paw, Plano, Sandwich, Serena, Somonauk, Yorkville)
participate in the Indian Valley cooperative which currently offers
16 career and technical programs. IVVC has been in operation
since 1975 with an anticipated enrollment for the 2008-09 school
year of over 500 students.
