Creativity RULES in Graphics

We like to enter contests and win! The Daily Chronicle newspaper in DeKalb offers a “Design an Ad” contest every spring that is open to students from all over the county. We entered in the High School division and were excited to hear that two of our IVVC Graphics students were winners. Congratulations to Keely H., a senior from Leland and Edwin M., a senior from Sandwich for earning cash prizes for their winning designs. Samantha E., Somonauk, was listed as honorable mention, and Blake R., Sandwich, had his design printed in the “Design an Ad” supplement to The Daily Chronicle, too. You may view selected entries from the “Design an Ad 2008” contest online at daily-chronicle.com (coming soon!) Look for the IVVC Graphics students' creative designs.

Here is what Keely and Edwin had to say about winning ...

Keely - I picked Kishwaukee Hospital for my ad because I have a lot of connections there. My sister actually works in the marketing department, my grandmother volunteers there, and I know a couple of nurses that work there, too. I know that they are really proud of their new building, so I thought it would be a good idea to include that in the ad. Everyone knows them by their motto, “Health. Heart. Home.” so I put that in the ad, too. I am really happy that I won first place in the high school division. I put a lot of thought into the ad I designed, and I’m glad to see it pay off.

Edwin - I picked the Smalltown Skateboard Shop because I used to want to be a skateboarder myself. I wanted to show something fun like a skateboarder doing a trick. I used red, black and white for a punk look because skateboarders would relate to that. I am thankful for winning second place in the high school division, because I put so much time and effort into the design.
