The Fire Science Students in Action!
| IVVC's Fire Science students had the opportunity to help the Sandwich Fire Department burn an old barn. The Sandwich Fire Department obtained all of the proper permits before they could do the live fire training exercise. Live fire training exercises are done under controlled conditions. | |
|
All of the police agencies and homeowners were notified before conducting this training. The exercise provided training in rural water supply, hose line placement, fire behavior, fire streams, exposure protection and setting up for rural operations. |
|
| This training could not have been accomplished without the help from the following schools: Hinckley-Big Rock, Indian Creek, Plano, Sandwich, Serena, Somonauk and Yorkville and the parents of the students involved. Somonauk & Shabbona Fire Departments provided a tanker/tender for water supply. | |
| Due to the number of students, additional safety officers were needed. A special thanks goes out to Captain Bob Wirtz (Aurora Fire Department - also Lieutenant at Bristol-Kendall Fire Department); Chief Rodney Reese (Serena Fire Department); Chief Frank Ottengheime (Shabbona Fire Department); and Lieutenant Chris Oelker (Somonauk Fire Department). |
