SkillsUSA (formerly
VICA) is a student organization at Indian Valley Vocational Center.
This year there are 90 members in the IVVC SkillsUSA club
representing 11 school districts. SkillsUSA’s purpose and mission
is to prepare America’s young workers in career and technical
programs by developing leadership skills, personal skills and
communication skills along with technical expertise. Regional,
State and National competitions enhance those skills. In the
spring of 2007, Peter Heibel from Sandwich took the Illinois
SkillsUSA Gold Medal in Architectural Board Drafting and Autumn
Skorup from Sandwich advanced to the SkillsUSA National Competition
in Kansas City, MO to place 4th in the nation in Nurse
