The Story Told By Wally J. Scott, a "Case-Less" PC
The first thing that
the students did this year was to disassembled me completely,
identify all of my parts and then reassemble me. I thought this was
a grand idea because I am a completely disassembled computer
hanging on the wall of the Computer Tech classroom. The students
like to disassemble and reassemble me daily. My hard drive always
shakes when I see the “Bucket o’ Screw Drivers”, because I know
they are going to poke and prod at me yet again. After all is said
and done, I’m always operational at the end of the day, thanks to
all of the computer technicians.
Well anyway, they hung me on a wall and put my head on a big black rack. The students like to open this rack and plug many wires into it. I recall them saying that it is some sort of network exercise. They plug in lots of little blue cords that are meant to attach me to all of the rest of the unnamed computers within the classroom. The students seem to be successful at this, judging by the smiles on their faces when they access the Internet through me.
In case you’re
wondering what I am and where I got my name, here is my story. As I
said before, I am a "case less" computer hung on the wall. Two
students named Jay and Scott assembled all of my parts and hung me
up here for everyone to learn from. Although I’m not the first
"case less" computer, I am the best learning tool that the Computer
Tech students have. All of my parts are exposed and my
network is open. I like it here, I think I'll continue to “hang”
around.
