The Business Systems Technology Class Visits Robert Morris College
The Business Systems Technology
class recently went on a field trip to Robert Morris College in
Aurora. The class participated in a business and marketing
presentation. The students had an opportunity to discover the
effects of marketing on the general public. They also learned how
marketing experts target specific groups and how they use
advertisements and various types of media to promote their
products. The class was able to see the various jobs available
in the business and marketing world, and learn the necessary study
beyond high school to achieve some of those positions.
With the field trip to
Robert Morris, the class saw the difference between the small
business owner and the corporate world. The responsibility of
the success of the business in a small business lies with the
owner. That is not the case in the corporate world. While
performance on the job is always the individual’s responsibility,
generally a team of corporate supervisors is responsible for the
direction and the success of the promotion of their
products.
During last quarter,
the students studied small business and the entrepreneur. The
class visited local sole proprietorships in the Sandwich area and
learned the challenges and the skills necessary for these
individuals to succeed. They discovered that while the sole
proprietor doesn't have a boss to answer to, she/he is totally
responsible for the success or failure of the business.
The Business Systems
students are now busy preparing for the annual Business Competition
Day at Waubonsee Community College on April 16, 2008.
