Check Out This Truck!
In the Auto Body class, we had the opportunity
to work on Tim Merchant’s pulling truck for the 6200 Illini State
Pullers Super Stock Truck class. It took us a few years to finish
this truck because the owner was building it from the ground up.
The front of the truck was in a fire.
The first thing we got for this truck was the
front end where we had to pull some dents out of it and do some
filler and putty work. The next part was the doors where we had to
pull some dents out and fill certain parts of the doors. The cab of
the truck had to be sandblasted inside and out to remove all the
burn marks. The firewall had to be sandblasted as well. The owner
originally went with the standard truck hood but would later change
his mind and go with a cowl hood, which is a more
performance-looking hood.
The box of the truck was homemade. The owner built the bed of the
truck out of one-inch square tubing and bought two after-market box
sides. We had to fill and putty most of each side of the bed,
because they were damaged from being shipped.
The paint we used on this truck is a urethane paint system. This
truck is a two-tone red and pewter. It is a two-stage paint system
consisting of a basecoat and clear coat. The owner gave us the
parts to the truck. As one part was done, he brought us more,
therefore, we had to paint all of the parts at different times.
When the truck was finally finished, it looked amazing!
